FILIPPO MARIGNOLI

Filippo Marignoli was born in Perugia in 1926 and his artistic training began in Umbria.

His first paintings date from 1952.

His collaboration with the artist of the Spoleto Group began in 1954.

His first wholly abstract experiments took place in 1956 and a year later he began his collaboration with the Galleria L’Attico of Rome.

In 1957 he signed a contract with L’Attico, but the same day he posted a singular letter in which he announced to Bruno Sargentini his intention to suspend the commitments he had assumed with him, thus revealing his restlessness and his desire to get away. However, his collaboration with Sargentini’s gallery marked the beginning of a rich period of personal and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad.

In 1959 he moved at last to Maui in the Hawaii, where he exhibited his work, and then in 1960 to New York, where he remained for two years.

Back in Italy in 1963, he underwent a long period of isolation, then in 1970 he left again for the Hawaii where he exhibited again.

In 1974 he moved to Paris and, in 1975, opened a personal exhibition at the Jacques Massol Gallery.

Later, in 1977, he joined the group of artists of the Denise René Gallery, giving both personal and group exhibitions.

In 1978 he was again in contact with Bruno Sargentini and, in 1979, he opened a personal exhibition at the Esse Arte Gallery of Rome. He also took part in numerous collettive exhibitions with his gallery.

In 1984 his state of health prevented him from continuing to paint.

Filippo Marignoli died in January 1995.
